Announced Feb 15, 2024

Yokogawa Electric Corporation (headquarters: Musashino-shi, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hitoshi Nara) announces that its subsidiary Yokogawa Solution Service Corporation (headquarters: Musashino-shi, Tokyo; President: Hiromasa Yahashi) has supplied a complete package, from design to commissioning support, of a remote operation and monitoring system centered on the OpreX™ Collaborative Information Server for the offshore wind turbines and onshore facilities of the Ishikari Bay New Port Offshore Wind Farm. The wind farm is owned through Green Power Ishikari LLC, a special purpose company of JERA Co., Inc. and Green Power Investment Corporation. Yokogawa Solution Service has also signed a maintenance contract for the delivered system.

The Ishikari Bay New Port Offshore Wind Farm is one of the largest commercial offshore wind farms in Japan. It is the first in Japan to use large 8,000 kW wind turbines, and it started commercial operation on Jan 1, 2024.

Yokogawa provides a remote operation and monitoring system and a video monitoring solution for the entire offshore wind power facility, from offshore to onshore, and maintains them.

The Collaborative Information Server at the core of the remote operation and monitoring system manages information from the offshore wind power facilities, the large onshore storage battery facility, and the substation in one place. It also manages information from multiple cameras installed on the offshore wind turbines, in the turbine maintenance warehouse, and at the large onshore storage battery facility in one place, using the video monitoring solution (Edge Gateway (Indoor) AG10) from Yokogawa's subsidiary amnimo Inc.*

Wind power, a form of renewable energy, generates different amounts of power depending on the environment. Based on information from the power company, the remote operation and monitoring system provides the information needed to decide how to control the charge level of the storage battery system.

In addition to the delivered system, Yokogawa Solution Service has received an order from Green Power Investment Corporation for a system that collects information in real time from wind farms located across Japan and links it to analysis tools in the cloud.

Together with Green Power Investment, Yokogawa Solution Service has also started a demonstration test to detect signs of damage to the subsea cables at the Ishikari Bay New Port Offshore Wind Farm, using the DTSX3000 fiber optic temperature sensor from the OpreX Control and Safety System lineup.

Yokogawa expects progress toward System of Systems (SoS), in which systems that are independent in operation and management work together to achieve, as a whole, goals that none of them could achieve alone.

Wind farm equipment and system configurations vary. Yokogawa has operational technology (OT) know-how: it understands what data from sensors and other sources means, and how to connect and operate systems to optimize both each part and the whole. Using this know-how, Yokogawa will provide the solutions customers need to solve their issues, from operation to maintenance of the whole system, and will contribute to a decarbonized society.
