Case study: i GRID SOLUTIONS, a provider of a solar energy management platform, deploys the LTE-capable Edge Gateway (Indoor) AG10

amnimo Inc. (headquarters: Musashino-shi, Tokyo; President and CEO: Chiharu Nakabayashi; “amnimo”) is pleased to announce that its LTE-capable Edge Gateway (Indoor) AG10 (Japanese) has been adopted for R.E.A.L. New Energy Platform®, an energy management platform from i GRID SOLUTIONS Inc. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Tomokazu Akita; “i GRID”). The platform circulates surplus solar power within local communities.

▷ See the case study for details (Japanese).

R.E.A.L. New Energy Platform® is an energy management platform with accurate AI forecasting of surplus power and fine-grained automatic control of DERs (distributed energy resources). It manages power generation facilities and storage batteries at business sites, grid power, and even the charging and discharging of the sites’ EVs together, and makes power use more efficient.

In R.E.A.L. New Energy Platform®, an IoT system sends data from solar power facilities to the cloud and carries control signals from the cloud, such as for charging and discharging storage batteries. amnimo’s LTE-capable Edge Gateway (Indoor) AG10 (Japanese) was adopted for this IoT system.

Role of the Edge Gateway AG10

1. Sends data from the power facility to the cloud and passes on control information from the cloud

Solar power controllers, storage battery controllers, and sensors such as pyranometers connect to the AG10 (Japanese) through interface converters. An application running on the AG10 (Japanese) sends on-site measurement data to the cloud and passes control signals from the cloud to the on-site equipment.

2. Wide operating temperature range

This IoT system is installed in harsh outdoor environments. The AG10 (Japanese) runs applications stably over a wide operating temperature range, so it is well suited to this use.

Comments from Satoshi Iwasaki, Executive Officer, i GRID SOLUTIONS Inc., and Director and CTO, i GRID LAB Inc.

1. The AG10 (Japanese) is a router with LTE support, but it also has enough computing resources to run server functions that collect data from each sensor and send it to the cloud. This let us simplify the equipment configuration.

2. We can develop programs on Ubuntu, and its versatility and expandability were very attractive.

3. Power facilities are outdoors where temperatures change a lot, so we needed a device that handles both low and high temperatures, from -20°C to 60°C. Almost no device other than the AG10 (Japanese) could do this.

By providing IoT devices that cover a wide range of uses in monitoring the operation of solar power facilities, amnimo aims to build a world connected by IoT.
